Privacy notice
Last updated 2 October 2026
Draft for review by a lawyer before launch. Items in [brackets] need your input.
This notice explains what personal information Junior Content Network collects, why, who sees it, how long we keep it and what choices you have. This page is a draft that a lawyer must review before launch.
1. Who we are
[Company legal name] ("Junior Content Network", "JCN", "we", "us") runs juniorcontent.com, a professional network for people and organisations that make, sell, license and support content for children and young audiences. We decide how and why your personal information is used, so we are the "controller" of it. Contact: hello@juniorcontent.com. [Company legal name and registered address to be added.]
This notice covers the website, the member area and our emails. It applies together with our Terms of use. We follow Canadian privacy law (PIPEDA and Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation) and, where they apply to you, the GDPR / UK GDPR and US state privacy laws.
2. What we collect
- Details you give us: name, email, password (stored only as a hash), company, role, country, province or state, city, website, biography, photo, credits and titles, rights and catalogue details, job, event and market posts, messages, enquiries and offers, reviews, and anything you type into our forms.
- Sign-in details: if you use Google, Facebook or LinkedIn we receive the basic details you allow, such as your name, email address and profile photo. We do not receive your password for those services.
- Event registration details: if you register or buy a ticket for an Expo event (with or without an account) we collect your name, email and, if the host asks, phone, organisation, country and answers to the host's questions, plus your tickets and check-in time.
- Payment and credit records: orders, amounts, currency, method, status, promo codes, provider references and your credit history. We never receive or store your full card number.
- Affiliate details: your referral code, the people you referred (shown to you only as members or invitation emails you entered), clicks, commission, and, if you ask for a payout, the PayPal address, Stripe details or bank details you give us for that purpose.
- Advertising details: banners you submit, the audience you choose, and counts of views, members reached and clicks.
- Technical details: IP address (we keep a short-lived anonymised or hashed version for security and rate limits), browser, device, pages used, sign-in times and security events.
- Communications: what you send us, and records of the emails we send you.
We do not ask for sensitive personal information such as health, beliefs or government ID, and ask you not to put it in your profile or messages.
3. How we use it, and why
- To run your account and the network (contract): create and review your account, show your profile as you choose, send messages and enquiries, run listings, jobs, events and the Market.
- To take payments and keep records (contract, legal obligation): sell credits, plans, banners and featured items, give refunds, pay affiliate commission, keep accounts.
- To keep the network safe (legitimate interests, legal obligation): prevent spam and fraud, check reports, enforce our Terms, secure our systems, keep audit logs.
- To show relevant advertising inside the network (legitimate interests): we match a banner to your profile location (country, province or state, city, region) and role type when an advertiser chose that audience. Advertisers see only totals, never who you are, and we limit how often you see one ad. You can leave location fields blank, in which case you will not see ads that target that kind of location.
- To keep in touch (contract, consent where required): service emails, notifications, and newsletters or updates you asked for. You can unsubscribe at any time.
- To improve and promote the Service (legitimate interests): understand how it is used, fix problems, and with your permission feature your public profile or listing.
- To meet the law (legal obligation): tax, accounting, and responding to lawful requests.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for third-party cross-context advertising. We do not use your messages to advertise to you.
4. What other people can see
Your profile is for approved members. You choose what appears on it, and some items (such as contact details or credits) have their own visibility setting. Jobs and events that you or an organiser mark as public can be seen and indexed by search engines and AI tools. A directory or public page lists only what is set to be public. Messages are visible only to the people in the conversation, and to our team where needed for safety, support or the law. Reviews and recommendations you give show your name and role.
5. Who we share it with
- Other members, as set out above and as you choose.
- Service providers that work for us: web hosting and storage, email sending, payment processors (Stripe and PayPal), Google reCAPTCHA (bot check), and sign-in providers (Google, Facebook, LinkedIn). [List the final providers.]
- Advertisers get only totals (views, members reached, clicks), never personal details.
- Employers and organisers receive what you send when you apply for a job or register for an event. For Expo events the host becomes responsible for your registration details and uses them to run and communicate about their event; JCN does not take payment for tickets.
- Professional advisers, regulators and authorities where the law requires or to protect rights and safety.
- A successor if the business is sold or reorganised, under the same protections.
6. Cookies and similar technologies
We use only the cookies we need and a few that remember a choice. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. Web fonts load from Google Fonts, which receives your IP address when the page loads. We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are used. It sets the cookies below, we turn on IP anonymisation, and it is skipped when your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control. We do not use it for advertising.
| Name | What it does | How long |
|---|---|---|
| Session cookie | Keeps you signed in and protects forms against forgery (CSRF). | Until you close the browser or sign out |
| jcn_ref, jcn_ref_m | Remembers which member referred you (and the link or banner used) so they can be credited if you join. | 30 days |
| _ga, _ga_* | Google Analytics: tells visits apart so we can count visitors and pages (anonymous). | Up to 2 years |
| Google reCAPTCHA | Tells people from bots on sign-up and forms (Google's own cookies and policy apply). | Set by Google |
You can delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking the session cookie stops you from signing in.
7. How long we keep it
- Account and profile: while your account is open, then deleted or anonymised within [90] days of closure, except where we must keep it.
- Messages: while the account is open, and for a limited time after closure for safety and disputes.
- Orders, invoices, credit history and affiliate commission records: [7] years, for tax and accounting.
- Security logs, audit logs and hashed IP records: up to [12] months.
- Ad view records: personal-level records for [12] months, then only totals.
- Backups: removed in the normal backup cycle, within [35] days.
[Retention periods are proposals. The owner and lawyer should confirm them.]
8. Your choices and rights
You can see, correct and download your information in your account, and you can change who sees your profile and which notifications you get. You can ask us to delete your account. Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to our use of your information, to take it with you, to withdraw consent at any time, to not be discriminated against for using your rights, and to complain to your privacy regulator (in Canada, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada). To use a right, write to hello@juniorcontent.com. We will answer within the time the law sets, usually 30 days, and may need to confirm who you are.
9. Where information is stored
Our servers and providers may be in Canada, the United States or other countries, so your information may be handled outside the country where you live. Where required, we use safeguards such as contracts with our providers. [Hosting location to be confirmed.]
10. How we protect it
Passwords are stored as hashes. Connections use HTTPS. We use access controls, rate limits, audit logs and bot protection, and limit who in our team can see what. No system is perfectly secure. Tell us at once if you think your account has been compromised, and we will tell you and the authorities where the law requires if a breach affects you.
11. Children
The Service is for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you think a child has given us information, write to us and we will delete it.
12. Email and anti-spam
We send you service emails you need (sign-in, approvals, receipts, security). We send newsletters and marketing only where you asked or the law allows, and every one has an unsubscribe link. If a member invites you through our invitation tool, we send that invitation once, say who it came from, and do not email you again unless you join.
13. Changes to this notice
We will update this notice when our practices change and show the date at the top. For important changes we will tell you by email or in the Service.
14. Contact and complaints
